Are You Ready To Go Up To The Spirit In The Sky

The time was 1986. The New Romantic movement was in full swing. Androgyny was king (or queen.) Groups like Culture Club, Adam Ant, Eurythmics, and Duran Duran ruled the charts. Out of A UK underground club scene came another band, totally unique and formed to win a bet!! They were called Doctor and the Medics. The group adopted a look inspired by the UNCOOLEST elements of psychedelia, Glam Rock and Punk. With music combining the COOLEST elements of those genres they had several indie chart hits.

On one fateful night, the leader of the Medics, the Reverend Clive Thomas Jackson, otherwise known as The Doctor, had a dream. That dream led to a studio session, and a cover of Norman Greenbaum – Spirit In The Sky and the rest is history. Hitting #1 around the world. Selling millions of copies and I know that you were playing it on your dance floor or dancing to it yourself.

Flash forward 29 years. Why 29 and not 30? Look at the Doctor. Do you think he does anything conventional? We bring back the song that you couldn’t get out of your head in the 80’s with the release of the 29th Anniversary Remixes. Featuring mixes from some of Sobel Promotions finest remixers – Parralox, Julian Marsh, Middlemen (Joel Dickinson & Jason Lanoux), Dirty Disco and Jose Jimenez. The single that hit around the world is poised to do it again with all of the old fans singing its lyrics and I am sure it will develop a brand new fan base.
